6th Grade Field studies

LAKE TAXAWAY, NC
Sixth Grade TLC participates in two overnight field studies each year.  The first of our studies happens in the fall right after we return from summer break.   Since TLC is a magnet school drawing from many different elementary schools, students need an opportunity to get to know each other quickly.  We attend Earthshine Mountain Lodge in Lake Toxaway, NC and participate in cooperative group activates designed to stretch individual comfort zones.   These skills transfer into the classrooms upon return.

The spring field study includes classes in marine biology at the University of Georgia’s Marine Education Center & Aquarium in Savannah and Skidaway Island State Park. During the day, the students will hike through a marine forest, visit the aquarium, participate in an invertebrate lab, and ride in a trawler through the estuary. At night, we will go on a dinner cruise for a good Lowcountry meal and a dance or two on the deck.   This is an exciting adventure to cap off the children’s sixth grade year!
